April Fools Day Fun & Frolic! - - - OR - - - Way More Than You Wanted To Know About April Fool's Day!

Happy April First!

Wouldn't you love to walk into your office and find that your workmates had "redecorated" for you?! This cracks me up! I'd be afraid the boss would deduct the cost of the post-its from my pay! I've been doing a little research and found some info about April Fool's Day traditions. And lots of ideas for stupid tricks to pull on people! LOL! I'm not really much of a practical joker, but they're kind of fun to read about.

Giant Jokes:

While you may enjoy fooling family and friends, large companies and the media are not immune to the irresistible urge to pull a fast one on the public. The year was 1957 and the BBC news reported that the spaghetti crop in Switzerland would be huge due to milder weather and the spaghetti weevil’s demise. Photographs of spaghetti-draped trees being harvested by Swiss farmers prompted viewers to call in and ask where they might purchase a spaghetti tree.

Taco Bell, the fast food chain of Mexican fare, claimed they purchased the liberty bell and would rename it the Taco Liberty Bell. The indignation of the American public was felt when people began calling the National Historic Park of Philadelphia.

Press secretary, Mike Curry, continued the hoax by adding that the Lincoln Memorial had also been sold and would now be called the Ford Lincoln Mercury Memorial.

Burger King is another fast food chain that enjoys playing pranks on the American public. The company took out a full page add announcing the left-handed whopper. More recently, the company surprised customers ordering whoppers that the popular sandwich had been eliminated from the menu.

In the year 2000, a press release announced that New York City’s 15th annual April Fools day parade would begin at noon on 59th Street. The theme would include brutality, corruption, and incompetence. Two news groups, CNN and a FOX affiliate sent reporters and camera crews to the site. All was quiet on 59th Street at noon and the news reporters realized they had been had.

Fish?

Any kind of April Fool’s prank can be called an April Fish, but often it is a very simplest prank, consisting in the attempt to attach a piece of paper cut in the shape of a fish onto someone’s back, without that person noticing. When after some time, during which the victim is the unwitting butt of the joke, he or she finds out, everyone shouts “April Fish!” Traditionally, a real dead fish was stuck onto the victim’s back, with the intention that he would eventually notice it by its smell.

The name “April Fish” is also applied to the victim of the joke. The idea is that an April fish is a very young fish, and thus easily “caught”.

That kind of explains all the strange photos of people and fish!

So, in the spirit of the "holiday" we'd like to suggest a trip to the Bates Motel-----they love company!

Wow! I didn't realize all the facts behind the 1st. My sister had the most cruel April Fool's Day joke played on her. She was supposed to be induced today with her fourth baby. An hour before she left for the hospital, they called and said they were too full. Call back on Monday. Now we are all waiting...

Love that office pic! It would be worth the $$ spent of post-it's!
